Message of the project
We can face the idea of origin as the beginning of something inalterable, as if the past had no influence over that origin and appeared in the present only through shattered signs, making the principle of origin be like a fixed point in the timeline. We can also see it as something organic that is propagated through time, changing itself according to the circumstances, spreading over everything and everyone and visible both in the cultural and natural human heritage.

Interview to Thierry Ferreira

• What’s the place that you live like?
I was born and raised in Paris (France). When I was 27, I moved to Alcobaça (Portugal) and I love it, because of the climate, environment and people. There is no better place to be.
• Can you share with us a happy memory from your childhood?
I don’t have any memories that can highlight. I had a perfectly normal childhood.
• When did your love for sculptures begun?
I can’t remember exactly when I started, but I began to develop my interest in sculpture during the late nineties.
• What does art mean in your life?
I see art as the only way of living life.
• Do you have any other profession besides sculpting?
No, I haven’t another job, besides sculptor.
• A model artist that you admire – fine artist, filmmaker, writer, philosopher
I’m interested by a set of artist such as Duchamp, Rodin and Brâncu?i.
• A world famous work of art that you admire
None in Particular.
• Which historical or political event do you think most affected your country’s present?
Portugal is facing the most critical economic and social crisis in its recent history. Moreover, the political class is too committed to partisan interests, and the mass is less involved in matters of community interest. The portuguese crisis has created an environment of pessimism and fatalism amongst portuguese arts organizations, patrons, and artists that is difficult to set aside.

• Do you practice any religion?
No, I’m not.
• Can you share with us a traditional recipe from your country?
Bacalhau a Bras is one of the most famous traditional Portuguese recipes: a dish with salt cod, potatoes and eggs, with parsley and black olives.
• What is the status or importance of art in your country?
What is the role of the artist in your society?

For me, art is universal because is everywhere and we experience it on a daily basis.
• Have you already been to South America and Argentina?
What are your expectations for the City of Resistencia and its Biennial?

already had the luck and fortune of being in Rosario where I participated in the symposium organized by the Sacco family and also in Brazil . Regarding the city of Resistencia Biennale and my expectation is inorme and my even greater responsibility , I have the best references of the biennial , the abitantes of Resistencia , in a few words that I think and a city that breathes art …
• What the slogan “Hommo Novus” makes you think about? Can you tell us something about the work of art you are going to make?
