Resistencia, the City of Sculptures, has been acquiring its identity since the year 1950 approximately. Diverse individual volunteers and entities started transmitting the passion of promoting Sculptural Art in streets.
Resistencia sculpts and based upon this volumetric and polychromatic display, Urunday Foundation is born, in November of 1989.  Being inspired by the pioneers' motivation and with the strength of the new institutions, the Foundation sets up its goals:

  • Promote Culture by means of its disciplines.
  • Conduct courses outdoors, as an appropriate space for the socio-cultural exchange between the artist and the diverse peoples and the world.
  • Insert Argentina within the international circuits of sculpture contests in public spaces.
  • Turn Resistencia into a unique outdoor museum, with the purpose of being acknowledged as Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
  • Develop a tourism area in Resistencia with projections throughout the region.
  • Since the first Wood Sculpture Contest in the Main Square (1988) until nowadays, the official and private activities join efforts. From the Organization Committee constituted during the first times, Urunday Foundation emerges, working permanently to organize each contest.

The Government of Chaco, Urunday Foundation and the Municipality of Resistencia, foster the erection of new sculptures, a work that is executed with the contribution of the Landscape Architect Mr. Pradial Gutiérrez and the Lighting Designer Mr. Ernesto Diz, two prestigious and renowned professionals of our country, and the permanent support of S.E.Ch.E.E.P., S.A.M.E.E.P. and private companies.

This valuable heritage of Resistencia is permanently preserved by a work team, the Sculpture Maintenance and Restoration Department, which is in charge of the sculptures maintenance and conservation within the landscape environment. The actions taken allow the restoration of value of all the artworks, through the development of a careful register of sculptures, an appropriate lighting, suitable signage, maintenance and, mainly, a “Heritage Educational Campaign” leaded by the neighbors of the city, for the care and maintenance of sculptures

    MISSION
The mission and social commitment of this Institution is to safeguard and protect the sculptural heritage and promote the characteristic for which the “City of Sculptures” stands out.
