The Urunday Fundation

Resistencia, the City of the Sculptures, begins to acquire its identity since 1950. Individual wills and different organizations passed the passion for promoting the art in their streets.. Inspired by the motivations of the pioneers and with the force of the new institutions, the Foundation was born in November of 1989 with the following objectives:

  • To promote the Culture by means of its disciplines
  • To stimulate the sculptor in his formal, conceptual and technical search
  • To sponsor the outdoor contests as proper space adapted for the sociocultural interchange between the artist and the different towns and the world.
  • To insert Argentina into the international circuits of outdoor sculpture contests.
  • To develop a sector of tourism in Resistencia with projections in all the region.

From the First Wood Contest in the Central Square (1988) to the present time the official and private activity unites efforts. The Urunday Foundation emerges from the first Organizing Committee and since then it works permanently for the organization of each contest.

The Urunday Foundation along with the Government of the Chaco (through SECHEEP, their company of electrical provision) and the Municipality of Resistencia bring about the location of new works. This task is done with the contribution of architect Pradial Gutiérrez and of the designer of illumination Ernesto Diz, prestigious professionals of the country.

The taken actions allow the works to be held in high esteem, by means of the development of a careful registry of sculptures, a suitable illumination, their signaling and, fundamentally, by promoting Patrimonial Educational Campaigns that have as protagonists the neighbours of the city, who participate in the care and maintenance of sculptures.

This Institution mission and social commitment is to guard the cultural patrimony and to strengthen the characteristic that distinguishes Resistencia as the City of the Sculptures.
